Has anyone taken gabapentin for nerve damage and suffered confusion as a result.

Has anyone taken gabapentin and fluoxetine and found they interacted with each other to cause conusion.

I've tried Gapapentin for nerve pain, and it didn't cause confusion. It did give me horrendous nausea and heartburn, so I had to stop it

I take 900mg at bedtime for back pain (herniated disks) and restless legs syndrome. I find it really helpful but I had to build up to the dose I'm on. Initially I took it in daytime but it did make me a bit 'out of it' until I got used to it. I think it's worth percivering until it works for you.

I was wrecked on gabapentin for neuro pain. I had to come off it after 5 weeks as it made me so zombie like and I really had no idea what I was doing - not good when you have two teenage kids to get to school 3 miles away in a car!

I complained and another consultant put me on amytriptyline which IMO was far better than either oramorph, tramadol or gabapentin. At one point I was on both tramadol and oramorph - not good.

Sorry OP can give you no advice re gabapentin but am interested in deardear's comments. Son age 13 CP deafblind nonverbal has been dx with neuropathic pain is at presently taking propanolol 30 mgsx2 day which helped a little and now is also taking amitriptyline 25mgs x2 day. This seems to be working on the whole (we do have "rescue" drugs if things go pear shaped.) However he is quite zombie like, he has been taking it since mid December. Will this wear off. Also any other help or advice gratefully received .

I had no probs on the amytriptyline but only had it once a day. Maybe his dosage wants lowering?

Gabapentin is apparently an epilepsy drug

Thanks everyone, dd is taking the drugs mentioned in OP and her depression and anxiety has got worse since starting gabapentin and she feels confused at times. Spoke to pharmacist who confirmed gabapentin causes depression and confusion and is convinced that it is affecting her ADs, he has adviseed she stops gabapentin immediately and go back to ibruprofen for the pain.

deardear DS was on 25mgs/day and it was not controlling pain hence the increase. Have to take his BP x2/day which is rather low so he looks very pale sometimes looks like a cadaver medics are aware. What does neuro pain feel like please?

Dawndonna · 14/01/2012 11:03

DH took Gabapentin for a while, for nerve pain. He was very confused and had to be taken to hospital twice. He's on different stuff now.
However lovebeing what concerns me is that Gabapentin can only be taken with a few SSRIs and I'd double check with the doctor on that one.
