Malaria

Please can someone tell me if you have to develop all of the common symptoms to suspect Malaria? I am feeling really unwell since returning from Ghana and was badly bitten for the first time out there. As yet, I don't have a fever which from what I've read seems to be the main sign?
I am loathe to see my Doctor as hes an idiot and will most possibly accuse me of being paranoid!

Firstly did you take malaria prophylaxis? Not all people develop all the symptoms. If you suspect you have malaria you should see a doctor ASAP. There are other tropical diseases such as Dengue Fever that also should be excluded.

If your Doctor fobs you off and you are still worried/unwell then seek another opinion or A&E. I have had malaria despite taking anti- malarials and its not nice.

I work as cabin crew and my company cover their duty of care by giving us Deet, so no I didn't take anything.
Doctors receptionist has told me to call back on Monday if I dont feel any better!!!!!
Think I will go to bed now and see how I feel in the morning, just have no energy to do anything.

If you still dont feel well in the morning insist on on urgent appt or you if you are in London you could try the Hospital for Tropical Diseases which says they run an emergency clinic which you can attend without referral.

Quick update!!

Attended hospital as kitten advised to be given the news that it definitely isn't Malaria, was diagnosed as having a really bad urine infection and the doctor said the antibiotics he was prescribing were safe to take whilst pregnant........

Totally unplanned and still in a state of shock, I feel I am too old???
