Not tolerating copper coil well - will mirena be any different?

I had a copper coil fitted in May last year.
Initially i struggled with how heavy my periods had become, as they were previously quite light. i thought i'd give it 6 months or so to see if it settled down.
However my periods have become more painful, excruiatingly so, to the point where i am today off sick from work as the cramps have been accompanied by vomiting. I'm having the coil removed ASAP, and was thinking of having a mirena fitted instead after a bit of a break. I'm keen to hear of the experiences of anyone who has been unable to tolerate the IUD and how they got on with the IUS.
TIA peeps.

There's a big mirena thread on page 2 of the relationships section, no clue why it's there but may be useful.

I love the mirena, its my second one. I have no periods Smile no pmt, no bloating, no weight gain, some loss of libido but i can live with that.
I had the secobd one put in under GA and it was amazing, i deffo wont ever have one done awake again

I am having my copper coil out next week. Periods heavy and a constant heavy discharge (TMI sorry!) which means wearing a panty liner everyday :(

I found the fitting horrible so thinking of avoiding the mirena but that only really leaves the pill. I want control over my periods when on holiday etc so the pill might be better I guess.

gawd, the discharge....i think i am single handedly keeping Always afloat with my massive use of pantyliners.

DH and I are currently debating sterilisation. Each of us is quite keen to go under the knife, but neither wants the other person to take such a big and permanent decision Grin. I'm going back on the piil (never had problems with Microgynon) while we decide....

Hi, yes, yes to this here too!! I am about to have my copper coil out. Bloating, pain, weight gain, it is just not worth it. I can't go on with so much of my month being dominated by managing the symptoms. Not at all sure what I am going to do. It doesn't work for me though. Not a Mirena - my feeling is that some people just don't tolerate a foreign body inside them. I do feel miserable that there are still so few alternatives. Condoms or sterilisation...any ideas welcome. Am 43 so feel too old for pill.
