Erm, how often do you poo?

I've never been regular (!) but recently have been keeping an eye on how often I go and it's averaging once every four or five days. Is this normal?! How often do you go?

I'm really struggling to lose weight at the moment and I wonder if this could be related. I feel like everything needs 'speeded up'. Any ideas of what I can do to help?

That does seems like a long time to go between 'movements'. Generally consistency is more important than frequency though (see the joys of the Bristol Stool Chart).

What is 'normal' covers quite a big range. Personally I probably go twice a day whereas DH is a once every other day kind of chap, both perfectly normal.

sitsyou · 10/01/2012 12:39

er, once a day Blush
there was a time when I was probably once every 3 days so i'm not sure what changed. I don't think I consciously changed my diet

what's your diet like?

controlpantsandgladrags · 10/01/2012 15:12

once or twice a day. I think everyone has their own normal where pooing is concerned!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 10/01/2012 15:13

Have you had your thyroid checked? If its under active, everything slows down! Metabolism, bowels...

Reenypip · 10/01/2012 21:27

If I don't take laxatives, use a peristeen and enemas/suppositories , I don't poo at all. Sometimes even on all the above, it's been 54 days (my record of no bowel movement at all and obviously end up in hospital as made me ill) without no poo.
My bowels don't work though because of nerve damage to my spinal cord (spinal cord injury), and also the amount of strong painkillers I take do not help as well as long term laxatives have made my bowel not work.

Bunbaker · 10/01/2012 22:54

I have IBS so some days it is several times a day. More usually it is between one and three times a day.

susiedaisy · 10/01/2012 22:56

Everyday usually just the once Smile

About once every 5-6 days but that has always been my pattern.

Haziedoll · 10/01/2012 22:58

Once a week but over Christmas about 3 times a day. On Christmas day it was about 7 times. I seem to need alcohol to poo but I only drink at weekends. Eat lots of fruit. It worries me.

Every day at 6 o'clock on the dot......regular as clockwork certainly applies to me.....

BobblyGussets · 10/01/2012 23:03

I go about three times a day.

TSC is the answer to the question inferred in your NN?

Geordieminx · 10/01/2012 23:07

Used to be every 4/5 days but last few months once a day, sometimes twice. Feels a lot better now. Hated being do bloated.

((((waves to K999...long time no see!)))))))

NoMoreMarbles · 10/01/2012 23:10

i go from twice a day to once a week and can be anything in between.

far from normal but i have an underactive thyroid and Coeliac traits so wouldnt be too normal anywayHmm

OneLieIn · 10/01/2012 23:15

Once every 4 or 5 days. Any longer it gets uncomfortable.

Shodan · 10/01/2012 23:28

If that's your normal pattern, that's fine. If you normally go more frequently, and you feel bloated/constipated, you could try drinking more water. I always seem to fancy orange juice more if I'm bunged up, but I remember being constipated after giving birth and the nurses recommended just plain old water.

I'd see the doctor though, if it's a wildly different pattern to your normal one.

Mrskbpw · 11/01/2012 11:59

Who knew there was such a lot of variation?! I definitely feel better when I go more frequently. Will keep a track of it and see if I can see a pattern. My diet is pretty good - I'm vegetarian and eat lots of pulses so you'd think I'd be pooing all the time!

Bobblygussetts - my nn is just my initials - is it a question?! What am I asking? And what does TSC mean? I hope it's something good...

Sorry Mrs, It was a question for *TheSecondComing". I was making joke of her nn, meaning is the second coming dervied from her need to visit the lavatory twice in one day. He he

Having just read this entire thread whilst eating my breakfast over here in the Far Out, and having done some research on the side-effects of having pooh stay in the colonic tract for extended periods of time, I'd like to ask those of you who pooh only once every few days, if you are plagued with bad health in any way, shape or form.

I actually colonically cleanse with a coffee enema daily - ever since 2003 when I had a scare with a Borderline Ovarian tumor - and wanted to go the alternative route with regards to preventative medicine. Do a search for 'cafe colon' if you are interested in more information.

My point is, I feel great all the time, physically, and I think my good health (touch wood) comes down to not walking around with a pile of pooh in my colonic tract.

What happens is the pooh stuck in there leaks toxins back into the blood, which isn't healthy, and can cause health problems, quite often serious health problems, I therefore feel that cleansing my colon daily (it's so relaxing, NOT kinky, and very easy) prevents excess toxins from hanging around.

Did you know that folks who have never colonically cleansed are walking around with between 1lb and 3lbs of ancient feces that is stuck to the tract.
Gross huh.
I couldn't believe what was coming out of me during the first few weeks when I started internal cleansing in 2003.
And NO, you do not get addicted to coffee.
And NO, you do not stop being unable to have regular bowel movements.
Indeed, I just went to The States for a couple of weeks, forgot my 'bag', and slipped right back into the daily motion with ease.

So just wondering..do those of you who rarely pooh, have any serious health issues, because if you do, it could be because of the pooh.

Auntiestablishment · 13/01/2012 07:03

"Colonically cleanse with a coffee enema every day". Grin

Hilarious!!

Bunbaker · 13/01/2012 09:07

It's a wind up. I don't need "help" to go to the loo every day. I'm not convinced that flushing coffee up your jacksie is good for you in the long term.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 13/01/2012 09:10

You have got to be kidding baypolar. Colon cleanse with coffee?

Bunbaker · 13/01/2012 09:11

The best colon cleanser is to drink lots of water.

WoodyAllenJesus · 13/01/2012 09:13

Every 3 or 4 days I'll go a couple of times in the same day. DH claims to go 3 times per day but I think he's just reading in there and escaping the mania.
