Norovirus and pregnant, advice needed...

I'm 28 weeks, and DH and I came down with the norovirus last night. Can't keep anything down but starting to get dehydrated. Can I take anything? (Dioralyte etc?). Will the baby be ok? I feel horrendous... Please help.

I would call the midwife, but in mean time, dialryte will be fine, it is just salts and sugars to mix with water. Take small sips regularly. Are you still being sick?

Your baby will be fine, remember your body will provide for your baby before it provides for you

So sorry for you. I currently have norovirus and I'm not pregnant!

I would be ringing the dr or mw, but can't see how dioralyte would be damaging.

I hope you feel better soon

Dioralyte is fine, keep sipping some and water. Start food as soon as you feel ready. If you are only passing small amounts of very concentrated urine then you may be getting a bit dehydrated, speak to the GP. There is no specific treatment for the virus, just keeping you hydrated and waiting for it to pass.

It is not usually more hazardous when pregnant, but is it definitely norovirus and not food poisoning?

I had it at about the same stage- rang the GP for advice, he said not to worry unless it goes on for days and days. Just try to keep some water down you. I really don't know about dioralyte, maybe have a Google? GP was very reassuring, he said the baby would still be able to get everything he needed. I was absolutely fine in the end and so was DS. I think NV tends to hit hard and be over quickly, so you'll feel dreadful for a day and then be fine, but you won't be poorly long enough to do any harm to the baby IYSWIM. If you're worried, ring your practice and they can maybe get a GP to ring you back to put your mind at rest.

Dioralyte is fine i had to take it several times when pregnant, as i kept catching peoples bugs! if you still cant keep it down after 24 hours i would contact your GP or MW as i had to be referred to my local hospital to have iv fluids! Baby will be perfectly fine for 24 hours though as your body will have a store of nutrients to keep the baby going! hope this helps x

Thanks everyone; I'm much better today, although DH is still going! Your advice was really helpful and definitely helped me through! Thank you Smile
