I am obese and have pcos so am concerned.

I ate breakfast at nine then coffee at eleven and one, had a bag of crisps at three, felt ill from hunger too busy to eat till dinner at five. My sight has home strange again, I notice sight goes odd when I go a long time without food.

I have had gtt previously.

I had eyes checked and other than thick corneas they blamed high pressure on, they couldn't find a reason for blurred and double vision episodes like this.

I had a check for diabetes recently - it is a simple blood test. Get down to your GP and ask for one.

I'm not surprised you felt terrible if you didn't eat from nine until five.

Usually if you don't eat for long your blood sugars drop low which will make you feel a bit shaky and weak. If you're diabetic you're more likely to have high blood sugars, not low. A simple urine dipstick could be a good place to start, ask your practice nurse to test your wee.

What you describe is not diabetes. That said I'd ask for yearly GTT (or H1ac) tests because of the pcos and your weight. They provide a much better indicator of your bodies response to sugar then a fasting test or urine which would only come up high if its getting really serious.

Also perhaps you should consider seeing a dietician to get some advice on your diet? Prevention is better then a cure and all that.

Frequent urination and excessive thirst are symptoms.

You can have a urine test in the first instance; book an appt with your practice nurse and take a urine speciman with you (you can get a sample bottle from the receptionists if you need to). If your urine has glucose in it then your blood levels will be high enough to warrant a test.

You aren't eating enough. You are probably having problems with your blood sugar which may lead to diabetes if you don't take care of your health by eating properly and the coffee will make it worse.

You need to eat every 3-4 hours and try to eat low gi foods.

what did you have for breakfast?

VeryStressedMum · 07/01/2012 19:32

You are not eating regularly enough your blood sugar was probably too low. That is not what diabetes is - not the stage when you don't know that you have it, then your blood sugar will be high which causes other symptoms.
If your eyes go blurry when you don't eat then eating regularly will stop that from happening.
