Evening primrose with neurofen?

I take 200mg of neurofen daily, sometimes 400mg (1-2 tablets) for AS a form of arthritis. I've recently been taking evening primrose too and have just stumbled on a website stating that it's not a good idea to take the two together. Any ideas why?

News to me, but I would ask your gp about it, they will know if it is counter indicated. Just a phonecall should do, or the local pharmacist.

I think ibuprofen and evening primrose oil both have a link to slower blood clotting, so not advisable to use in combination, I guess, because it might increase the risk of, eg, a bleed in the stomach or bruising easily, which is increased if you take medications like aspirin (and ibuprofen????).

(ps nurofen contains ibuprofen, which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and I think all NSAIDs can slow blood clotting...).

All NSAIDs canb cause irrirtation of the stomach lining, leading to intestinal bleeds, that is probably why they say no evening primrose, as you don't want a non clotting bleed!

Coincidently enough, I have been bruising more than usual. The evening primrose was working a treat for my pms though, shame.

Yes, ibuprofen can definitely irritate the stomach lining and potentially cause bleeding that way, but I think it also has a mild effect on blood platelets, so can thin the blood and slow blood clotting also, alongside evening primrose oil which can also thin the blood, thus increasing the chance of thinning the blood too much and getting internal bleeding and bruising. Or something like that...
