Persistent cough

hi I've had a chesty cough for about 5weeks now, am currently 38+6 weeks and just cannot seem to shift it. Really getting me down as it hurts my bump area every time I cough, went out for a meal earlier and had to go stand outside for nearly 10 minutes as the coughing was so bad. Gets worse when I'm hot (but constantly get hot flushes). Doctors saud there is nothing I can take to help, but when I was expecting DS1 (4years ago roughly) I got a cough (not as bad as this) and they said I could take a medicine but can't remember what it is. Any ideas?

Hi I've got the exact same problem and when I saw the doc last week he said I couldn't have anything but went back today and he's given me antibiotics and a cough medicine.
Sorry I can't remember the name of the medicine and don't have it to hand at the mo, it's part something beginning with a P and part linctus.
I'll check in the morning and let you know.
The only thing is though I'm only 7 weeks pregnant and some things are safe in some stages of pregnancy but not in others.
Go back to GP and have a massive coughing fit infront of him. I read that whether the prescribe something is down to whether the benefits outweigh any risk, therefore if it was just a bit of a tickle then it's probably best you just get over it by yourself but if the GP sees that it's bad and it's really bothering you then the benefits would outweigh the small risks.
