Have been thinking about this a lot - wondered whether anyone else has this ?

I do to some degree, was going to post about it some time. How does yours manifest?

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/01/2012 12:20

hello camel I have OCD which I think is linked- I cannot have any photos taken of me without finding myself hugely distressed and critical of everything about my appearance-I hate catching myself in mirrors/reflections and feel wretched a lot of the time because I don't look 'right' or as I feel I should look- the OCD bit is the perfectionism, which of course is impossible to achieve. It is more than vanity though.

Me too.
I am uber critical of my appearance...can't sit in a restaurant opposite a mirror. There are no photos of me anywhere in the house, I won't even have the video link on when skyping dh. Will not have my photo taken at all.....at FIL's recently, SIL was taking a "family" photo and I refused to be in it.

I know I do not have a face like a bag of spanners, and work in front of an audience most of the time...but just hate seeing myself on film/photo/mirrors.

Mrsrobertduvall - hairdressers and being in front of the mirror is agony. It's really sad though to think that there are hardly any photos of me for ds to look at in the future.

I do. I can't bear photos of myself. I think I am totally ugly. I can't be seen naked and have a completely skewed sense of what size I am.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/01/2012 16:50

I suspect a lot of people have it - have ordered a book to read up a bit more.

The book -'The Broken Mirror' has arrived- big tome but have read a chapter about someone with mild body dysmorphia which rings lots of bells.
