Alternative solutions for Proctitis

My husband was diagnosed with proctitis 3 years ago. He was prescribed medication by a gastroenterologist which helps keep it under control but it has horrible side effects. He is still prone to flair ups which leave him feeling drained and feeling very uncomfortable. He is constantly fatigued and often anaemic. I feel very upset for him and would love to help him try and get a better quality of life back. I feel very helpless watching him struggle with this condition.

We are otherwise pretty healthy with a good diet and drink very little alcohol.

I am wondering whether any of you mumsnetters have experience of making lifestyle, dietry or other changes which have helped this or a similar condition?

I know this is an old post, but I too suffer from Proctitis and wonder if you found anything to help.
