normal or postpartum hemmorhage?

Hey guys.

I've got a couple of hours to wait before I can see an out of hours doc but wanted your opinion on this.

I'm a bit scared about the amount I'm bleeding right now. I'm 11 weeks postpartum and I had the depo shot four weeks ago. My bleeding returned 2 and a half weeks ago and has been getting heavier every day. The last couple of days I started passing small clots. I've had perenial pain, vaginal pain, rectal pain, lower back pain and pelvic pain too (not like normal menstrual cramps, at least it doesnt feel it!) They're sharp and stabbing pains. There's alot of blood when I urinate in the toilet bowl (turns water completely red). The pad is not soaked yet but its half full and only been on 20 mins. I don't mean that its drenched though, its not soaked through to my clothes but I feel it coming out of me if you get what I mean.

I'm paranoid because I don't understand if this is just the heavy bleeding from the depo or if its a postpartum hemmorhage. I have an appointment for an US but not until 2nd Jan. I don't have a fever yet or anything, just uncomfortable and pain and bleeding. I don't know if I have a UTI because when I pee it hurts my kidney sometimes but it doesnt feel like knives when I do so. However it hurts to hold my pee.

Rectal pain and all that down below pain gets worse when bleeding gets worse. Seems to be a pattern. I went to the doctor this morning and he didn't seem concerned, but I'm in pain now and want some advice or reassurance. Have any of you had one and what are the common symptoms? I was never sure what soaking through a pad an hour meant but at this rate it seems like I will"!

Secondary PPH only covers bleeding up to 6 weeks after the birth so they wouldn't consider it to be that.

The doctor didn't seem concerned? Did s/he say why? Doesn't sound normal to me (postpartum that is, have never had depo so not sure about that).

They didn't give a reason, probably because bleeding on depo shot is considered normal. It's not just the bleeding though, its the ongoing cramps that have been getting worse and worse as time goes on.

Possibly some kind of infection somewhere then?

Doesn't sound normal. Can you see a different doctor, or phone the midwife or health visitor?

It was retained placenta, got antibiotic but can't have ultrasound until monday 2nd jan so I'm petrified. Passed a bit in toilwt but no idea if its all gone

Glad you know what it is. Shocking that you can't get US earlier though.
