Is there anything else that can be done? I had a week's course of double dose Penicillin, and although I am better than I was, and sleeping better, I am still coughing for England during the day and getting a bit breathless.

Presumably this means it was a virus, not a bacterial infection, as the Anti-B's did not kill it off and as such, there is little a doctor can do other than say "take it easy"? We are supposed to be going to a big NYE bash, which admittedly is 4 days away, but I just can't summon the energy to get dressed let alone party AND I have a full two weeks of the school holidays still to get through....

Anyone got any advice?! Getting desperate!

Go and get some more a/b's
It took 2 lots to get my chest infection going, and I'm still coughing 4 weeks later.

REALLY? WOW. APOLS FOR CAPS, BUT BUTTON IS STUCK ON.

I HAD THOUGHT THE DOUBLE DOSE WOULD HAVE SORTED IT IF IT WERE A BACTERIAL INFECTION, BUT MAYBE NOT....

sorry to hear that (button now unstuck!)

You probably need a different sort of antibs - last chest infection I had took three different ones till I got the right one for my bacteria

LadyPeterWimsey · 28/12/2011 14:00

Yep, try different antibiotic. This time two years ago I had one which didn't shift with amoxycillin but went very quickly with erythromycin.

HollyTwat · 28/12/2011 14:02

Yes really it takes 2 lots sometimes
Get yourself back to the doctors. You'll feel better in 48 hrs once you start taking them

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/12/2011 21:13

Did they take a sputam sample for culture and sensitivity? or just guess which ab would work?

Steam your chest with friars balsam, gets all the crap off your chest

may need more or maybe steroids. go see dr

mumof3teens · 29/12/2011 08:13

Know how you feel. Had 8 lots of ABs (including one lot for a month) plus steroids etc. Took ages but cleared by itself. Would second going back to GP fir different ABs though. Take good care of yourself - plenty of hit drinks, sleep, fruit etc all the usual. Steam inhalation good and I used a neti pot to clear nose/sinus.
