Has anyone tried 5HTP for PMS

I have just bought some 100mg tablets which I have taken for two nights after reading about it on the pms.org website. I have been quite lightheaded and spaced out the next day. Also wasn't sure if I should be taking them all the time or just around PMS time. Has anyone had experience with these?

Hi
I normally just lurk and don't post! But as no one else replied didn't want to leave you thinking no one was out there :) Yes I tried 5HTP several years ago but for general anxiety and it didn't really work. I find a really good omega 3,6,9 supplement the very best thing for PMS. It may take a couple of months to really work, I double the dose the week before I'd due on, but its really worked for me. These days I don't even know I'm due on until it shows unlike my whole life of feeling teary/clumsy/cross/irrational. My last remaning PMS symtpom is a headache. The one I take is called Artic Sea by Forever Living that a friend sells me. But you can get a good one in most chemists.

I used to take 5htp for pms and found it helpful. Take last thing at night with a carbo snack which will help stop you feeling spaced out.

L-Theanine was also good, but don't take it every day, just around the pms time. It calms you down, but can lead to zombiefication and some feelings of dullness if taken all the time. It stops you from losing your temper when the pms is at its worst Smile

Didn't work for me.

Evening primrose and flaxseed oil did though with great results.

i take vitamin d. i watched the food hospital a while ago on telly. there was a woman with severe pmt, they advised her to take vit d with calcium. it worked for her.

i am feeling loads better after 1 month of taking it.
i also take EP oil once a day

I did take it every day of the month because I was using it to help my depression too.

I found the best thing for pms was cutting out all refined sugar. It's difficult, but it does help. Caffeine too if you can manage it.
