Heavy bleeding between periods

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this and knows what the cause could be? My period came and went, and then eleven days after my period started, I started bleeding again. It's been quite heavy for the past 7 days and hasn't stopped. A few little clots in and amongst. Any ideas?

There are lots of causes of breakthrough bleeding - hormonal, infection, erosion etc. Have you had any pain? Am worried about same and waiting on a smear test as is not an infection (been trying not to worry over Christmas )

How old are you OP? Could it be fibroids or something?

I Had a little pain, a bit like period pain, the day before it started. Then three days in I had overwhelming pain at the bottom of my ribs, right at the 'fundus' part - it felt like I was heavily pregnant and couldn't breathe in properly. That lasted a day. Went to the doc yesterday and he took blood to check for hormone levels.

Crazy cracker - I am 36. Had scan on ovaries recently as was feeling bloated, and also had smear recently - results all normal. Surviving winter - hope you find out what the cause of yours is soon!
