What does hemmorhoid pain feel like?

I'm curious because I have some external hemmorhoids that have been bothering me ever since birth. I'm sure I had them during my third trimester but they only seemed to get worse after my labour.

I'm just not sure whether the pain I'm feeling in my rectum alot of the time is from them and whether constipation or stool build up also affects them? I feel a deep sharp aching constantly, that doesn't seem to go even if I pass gas (sorry for tmi!) and also causes me coccyx pain.. I feel if I press sometimes on my buttocks I do feel the aching too, and theres a lot of pressure there.

I've never had them before in my life, so I'm trying to work out if this is really what is causing me the pain!

I was using xyloproct cream daily for a long while which did shrink them a bit but not completely, and my doctor recently told me to stop using it and just wait it out and try to avoid constipation. Obviously thats hard for me to do as the doctors are convinced I have IBS, or at least I find I get impacted very easily for some reason, but I'm trying my best to drink a ton of water.

Any insight? I don't have internal hemmorhoids btw.

TBH this doesn't sound like the pain from piles. I have some ( great) after delivery and they are mainly internal. I have no pain or anything but very very occasionally they bleed a tiny bit after going for a poo if I get constipated.
I do get another pain though which is like cramp in my rectum- this has an odd name which i can't remember but which sarts with a "p".

if you google "pain in the bum"! you should find it.

It is a type of IBS/anxiety thing and is really a cramp in the lower bowel. Iget it occasionally when stressed.

They said it was probably IBS and stuff but I'm pretty sure IBS doesn't cause that kind of pain, especially down the legs, in the netheregions etc. It just seems a bit weird. Internal hemmorhoids or piles won't hurt or so iv'e heard, the external ones are the more painful type.

I think I know which one you mean, Proctalgia Fugax or something? thats more sharp quick pain that apparently only lasts from seconds to a minute - mine is ongoing and dragging so I don't think its that.

Yes that's the pain- have had it for 30 minutes and it's agony.

It sometimes comes on at night or when i am sitting and feeling tense.

it is agony- like a labour pain- and feels as if you are very constipated and need the loo- but that doesn't work!

It eventually goes away but I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

You could try seeing an osteopath to check it's nothing back/spine related.

I'm thinking mine could be levator ani syndrome, which is similar but comes with a bunch of other symptoms that sound like mine.. I'm hoping its something really simple and not endometriosis which is what I'm also worried it might be!
