Urgent sumatriptan migraine help

Does anyone know whether you can take more than 2 50mg tablets over the course of a day?

I've got a hideous migraine and I'm desperately trying to get rid of it before tonight as it's dh's 40th birthday party. I took one tablet this morning and it didn't even touch it. Normally they work straight away but maybe I left it too long.

I took another around 1.30 which I've only ever had to do once before but it's still not gone. I can just about function now but it'slingering and I really don't want it to flare up again tonight.

The instructions say it's ok to take a second tablet if the first doesn't work after 2hrs which I did. But then it's a bit vague but says do not take any more than 6 in 24hrs. Does that mean I could take another tonight if it's still not gone? Or will I overdose?

Aagh I just want it to go so I can enjoy myself.

You can take more. You just have to leave 2 hours between doses and not take more than 6 in 24 hours.

Ok I've got some alka seltzer which is aspirin and paracetamol. I'm going to try that with some full fat coke, do you reckon?

herbietea just wanted to say a massive thank you - the aspirin in coke worked a treat and another hour later my migraine had gone completely. Can't believe that was the only thing that shifted it but it did and I had a great night at the party.

Will def be trying it again for stubborn migraines.

With Sumatriptan, it is an advantage to lie down and have a sugary drink, and give it time to work. If you are rushing around, IME you are more likely to get the "didn't work" problem. It often sends me to sleep if I take it when I'm tired.

BTW IME the injections are faster and more certain than the pills or snorters (you have to get them on prescription and they are very expensive so doc may be reluctant to prescribe more than one pack)
