Cold/Chest infection - am going nuts here.

Have had a cold for about 3 or 4 weeks now. Was not very severe, bit of runny nose, sore throat, and a nasty cough.

I cannot seem to shake the cough. It goes away for a day or two and them comes back.

Have been to doc this week as shoulder/neck/chest all aching from too much coughing and I have tightness in chest, particularly when doing anything strenuous.

Have been to doc on Monday, had chest Xray yesterday to rule out pneumonia, lungs clear.

Tonight the cough came back. Have been coughing for an hour now, despite taking cough blocker tabs.

The only thing that is helping is taking ibuprofen and muscle relaxing tablets. Had to get up in the night to take ibuprofen.

The cough itself doesn't bother me that much, but it is causing the other pain, which is really really sore. Not able to sleep sore.

Anyone got any ideas what I could do?

Have you had your sinuses checked? Sometimes they can be blocked and drain into your throat which gives you a cough.

I sympathize, I am in my 12th week, just cannot shake it off, docs say it viral! Wake up each day thinking I have got to feel better, but no, lots of yukky gunge and irritating cough! Hope yours goes away soon.

Don't think it is the sinuses, I have had that before and it really hurts.

Not as bad today, but I think that was the cough medicine that knocked me out so I could really sleep.

Cough is back though. Meh.

I feel your pain. I have had a virus for three weeks now! Apparebtku there is a nasty virus that is taking ages to get rid of. Every morning I wake up with a raging head, sore throat and blocked mode and I am so sick of it! I hope you both feel better soon.

No ideas for what might help, other than painkillers but you have my sympathy.
I've pulled all my rib muscles from coughing again.

Was wondering how you are doing. Haven't seen you about for a while.

There is a brilliant medicine you can get from Boots - called Pholcodeine. As the name suggests it has codeine in it, so you'll have to have a bit of extra fruit not to get bunged up, but it's really good stuff and stops the coughing. I had very bad flu last Christmas and found this excellent, especially at night...
O and buy manuka honey and swallow a spoonful every few hours, fights infection and bacteria. But if you just get one thing get Pholcodeine, as it will arrest the cough and also is a painkiller!

I don't think I can get that here, but it seems to be similar to the tablets I got from the doc.
