I've called NHS Direct but there's a 6 hour wait for callback :(

My periods have always been heavy but this morning my pyjamas were soaked as was my bed. When I got up, bright red blood was even running down my leg :( what on earth could be
happening? Should I go to A&E or wait until the GP is open on Monday? I have an appointment for a smear test in 2 weeks or so and was diagnosed with small fibroids a couple of years ago...

Mine have been like that since having children! Is it maybe just that it started in the night, so all came out in a flood when you got up? I'd put a pad on (rather than tampon), so you can show the doc if needed, but if you feel ok otherwise then don't panic and wait to talk to nhs director call your out of hours gp?

I'd talk to OOH doc? Could just be pooling from lying down in night, second putting a pad on. are you still bleeding heavily?

Hi thanks for replying!

My period started on Thursday, but I think the flood when getting up is playing a part. Will contact out of hours GP when I sort out the kids' breakfast and so on...

Hope all Is ok. I had very heavy bleeding last month, was soaking through a super plus tampon within an hour (tmi sorry)
Lots of clots too. I do tend to have heavy periods but this was heavy for me. My period was also 5 days early so I did consider a possible early miscarriage. Who knows?

Fingers crossed you et answers.

Fibroids can cause heavy bleeding to arise.

You need to see a gynaecologist asap, out of hours GP should refer you to such a person as a matter of course.

Hey all thanks for your replies. Saw out of hours doctor, infection etc rule out but recommended to see GP on Monday for referral for an ultrasound. I've been prescribed tablets to help with the bleeding. Will also consider going back on the Pill...
