Thyroid antibodies levels

thereinmadnesslies · 14/12/2011 22:06

I saw my GP today to find out that my thyroid antibodies level is 465 when the norm should be under 100. Eek! I've been taking levothyroxine since Sept but only 25mcg (now upped to 50). My TSH level was 8.86.

Does this sound like Hashimotos? Does anyone have this, if so what will happen from here? I'm seeing an Endocrinologist at the end of the week (hurrah for medical cover via work).

TIA

So ask them if you have hashimotos rather than unqualified people here.

Thanks for that overwhelmingly helpful reply. I will obviously be listening to the Endocrinologist, but I was hoping to hear of other peoples experiences just to help get my head round it and to have a few questions ready.
Please go be passive aggressive to someone else.

sorry i dont know much about Hashimotos, and sorry you got such stupid response from A1980. Its always a good idea to get as much info as poss before seeing a consultant, then you can cut out the simple explinations and get to the tricky questions that matter to you.

I have Hypothyroidism and take 75mg of levo atm. The way thyroid disease affects you physically and emotionally is a roller coaster.
good luck

lucky you getting to see an endocrynologist - can you post their advice etc on here? am thinking of sending my mum to see one as her gp is giving her the runaround about her symptoms. I am just diagnosed with hashimotos - no-one seems very excited about at at my gp surgery - just start on the pills, up the dose til it settles back down again, same as any other hypothyroid condition. have just started reading about it so can't really give you any advice but am interested in what others have to say about it
