Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding :-(

Hi,

I have been taking Femodette (oestrogen only pill) for about 4-5 months. As advised by the doctor, I took the first packet and had a break, then have been taking it continuously. I missed a few tablets during the second pack and had some light bleeding but have taken it continuosly ever since.

I have had bleeding now for 3 weeks and have not stopped taking the pill. It has been fairly heavy. I have also had menstrual like cramps during this time.

I finally went to the doctor's yesterday and saw a GP Registrar. He examined me and then the nurse took some swabs. He gave me Norethisterone to stop/control the bleeding and also did a pregnancy test which was negative. He arranged for me to have blood taken also.

I am just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar at all.

I have also lost about 3 stone since July/August and have not been serious dieting. General lethargy.

The doctor didn't seem very concerned at all, which in one way is good but I don't want to think he's being complacent.

Very grateful for any advice anyone can offer.

thanks for reading.

Hi big....I suffered this when my DS was 6 weeks old til he was 12 months. I can completely sympathise with you. I was diagnosed with dysfunctional uterine bleeding. I was given norethisterone but it did not work for me. I am now on alternative medicine which (touch wood) works excellent. Mine was hormone related so it may be worth asking for bloods to be taken to check any hormone imbalance.

Losing 3 stone in a few months without trying is quite lucky concerning - was the GP not concerned about this? I think my GP would have referred me for a scan or something (infact I have had several scans due to abmormal bleeding) - is there anyone else you can see at the practice if you are still worried?

I was in that much pain, i'm not even sure I mentioned it.

The doctor in question used to be a House Officer on the ward where I work (i'm a HCA) and was never the most confident of doctors then.

It's been like having a heavy period for 3 weeks now :-(

I have phoned in sick to work today as I really need to rest (i'm so tired!) but think i'll be phoning them again tomorrow.

It's totally coincided with my starting Femodette, but of course could be entirely unrelated.

It's just bloody miserable :-(

I would get a second opinion. You should not be suffering this way & have lost so much weight without a proper diagnosis. Rest as much as you can...it's very draining.
