Vaginal swelling. Prolapse? TMI warning!

Can anybody help? I've namechanged to ask.

I'm definitely not pregnant (the only time I've experienced these symptoms before), in fact have been having difficulty becoming so, ttc for a couple of years.

Anyway; for the past couple of weeks I've had a swelling around the vaginal opening area. It becomes worse when bearing down, using the loo etc. and is slightly sore around opening.

A google search brought up possible thrush, but I've never had that (to my knowledge) and there's no itching symptoms or odd discharge. A quick search in the advanced search function here showed possible prolapse.

What should I do? I have a smear test booked for this week too.

Thank you

GP can do a quick check for you, but if its not too uncomfortable I imagine you could wait for your smear and ask the nurse to check. I have a slight prolapse, and it does feel like that - though no soreness. Still worth checking with GP for infection, I would think.

Good luck!

Go see your gp. If it is a prolapse they can send you for physio. Best to know either way.

Thank you.
Should I mention it to the nurse before the smear, then? The test is due tomorrow.

I've also had pain during sex the past few weeks and abdominal cramps. Perhaps it is all linked?

Is it worse when you have a full bowel?

Nuncell · 06/12/2011 13:17

Not particularly, that I've noticed anyway.

It doesn't sound like thrush though does it? I've been wondering whether to treat for that first, just in case.

It's a rectocele. I would bet my house on it.

Oh my goodness, that would explain some of my symptoms (I didn't mention bleeding but I have had some spotting recently). Thank you

I suppose I need to go to the GP then? How embarrassing. Though I suppose I shall mention at my smear test.
