I would like to start some form of excercise and I was thinking of running areound the block a couple of times, but should I start by walking or jogging or what? Dont think I would make it 50 yards if I just ran!

Any advice appreciated! Ta!

I did this last year it was great!

I went to the Tesco's race for life website (will try and find) and downloaded their little planner and followed it religiously until I felt happy to just run.

Felt fab and really toned my legs.

Oooh sounds interesting! Thanks!

the 2006 website hasnt been launched yet - in 6 days apparently

IIRC you ran for 1 minute, walked for 1, repeat 3 times on the first day

did this for a couple of days

then ran for 2 mins, walked for 2, ran for 2, walked for 1

I have just registered my details on the website.

So you think they will have some sort of planner on there once the website is up an running (no pun intended!)

Thanks Enid - I may just start by walking around the block a couple of times and gradually work up to jogging/running! Its a start at least!

JG - I'm going to start too. A runner friend of mine said do 30 mins 3 times a week (walking/runnin.

I used to run a bit but not for ages.

What time of day are you going? After kids in bed?

JenumGeranium · 08/01/2006 11:44

Excellent dinny!

I am actually going to get dressed now and have a go now! Wish me luck!

I would like to do this in the morning maybe once kids are at school/playgroup or in the afternoon once DH gets home from work.

I should make the most of my free mornings as I really should be looking for a job!

oh, go for it. enjoy.

I'll be going in the evening (if can force self out of door!)

ScummyMummy · 08/01/2006 11:48

This might help. I like running/jogging too. Decided to start when I gave up smoking and built up from 30 seconds running on the spot to being able to keep going for quite a long time at plodding pace- made me feel ridiculously proud as have always been v unsporty.

dinny · 08/01/2006 12:09

Good link, Scummymummy. Do you run round and round a park or on pavements?

Enid · 08/01/2006 12:13

ooh and it is really worth getting a pair of decent trainers

JenumGeranium · 08/01/2006 12:18

Yeah great link!

I have just got back from walking quite quickly around the block twice! Feel out of breath but somehow good!

Should I do this again tomorrow or leave it a day? Feel I could do it again tomorrow at the mo, but when I wake up in the morning it may be a different story!

Off for a shower now!

JenumGeranium · 08/01/2006 12:20

Ok!

Think I will do every other day!
