Strange feeling in tongue...

I've looked back through loads of threads on here to see if I can find something similar, but nothing seems to quite fit the bill. For the past couple of weeks every time I eat, my tongue feels as though I've burnt it. It's not a burning sensation, IYSWIM, but that sort of feeling you get afterwards, or say if you've eaten something really peppery if that makes sense? It all looks totally normal, no redness or spots or swelling or anything else but it just feels so odd. When I wake up in the morning it's not there but as soon as I eat/drink it comes back.

I was wondering if it was even something psychological going on, as ds has recently been discovered to have food allergies and obviously I've been obsessing over it a little bit but it's definitely there, I'm not imagining it. It probably doesn't help that he's waking every 2 hours every night so I'm a little run down (!) and haven't really been eating properly for ages. Anyone got any ideas??

Worth seeing your GP as tongue symptoms can be caused by being low in some vitamins, especially as you haven't been eating well lately. Also worth seeing your dentist if you haven't recently as another common cause is a developing rough surfaces on the teeth or fillings that irritate the tongue (I'm sure there's a more technical name for this but I'm a doctor, not a dentist! Smile)

It certainly doesn't sound like anything worrying and, if you are low in vitamins, you can easily be "topped up" but worth getting checked out.

Wow that was quick, thanks! Don't think it's to do with the surface of my teeth as it's just the tip of my tongue and I haven't had any changes to my teeth. Was wondering if it might be a lack of a certain vitamin but would that not cause my tongue to feel strange all the time rather than just after eating??

Depends - I've seen all sorts of weird & wonderful symptoms from vitamin deficiencies and they can be intermittent. OTOH, it could just be because you're generally run down - the inside of the mouth is very sensitive and people often seem to get symptoms from it when they are generally under the weather. Worth seeing your GP though.

I had something that sounds very similar and it turned out to be thrush. Needed a course of medicine to clear it up.
