How many on here suffer with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)?

What problems are you having or have had in the past? Anyone got any tips to keep symptoms under control?

Any helpful tips on controlling weight, suitable diets that work, excess hair, fertility, vitamins?

Let's talk!

Hi - this thread is a little out of date. We've got some more information on PCOS here. MNHQ

I have it!

Got diagnosed at 18, a midwife I used to work with said I had it (she worked in a fertility and abortion clinic Confused so was used to seeing women with it) she also had it herself.

I get nipple hair (ooh the shame!) and a coulple of chin hairs but I just pluck them out before DH gets chance to notice. I dont think you can have laser on nipple hair in case you burn the nipple skin as its darker than normal skin.

For skin I find avoiding very sugary food sets mine off as does alcohol. So I avoid most choc, fruit juices etc. I try to be low GI where possible.

I dont get excess weight which means periodically I have to explain to a dr that yes I really do have ovaries covered in cysts and the hormone pattern for it. But it is a syndrome so a collection of symptoms that do not all need to be present.

I have to have IVF next year so I dont know how fertile I am or not, DH is sterile as he had chemo when he was 16 and no one offered him sperm freezing, the man who had the same cancer as him but was 3 years older had his done and is now a father. As he's the only man I have had un-protected sex with I dont know if I could get pg with anyone else. I have a regular cycle but if I gain weight my cycle can stop for 4 months.

Have you heard about verity? they are a charity who support pcos sufferers and have a lot of information on it.

Ooh I forgot royal jelly! I get it off amazon as its freeze dried and I think my skin is better with it. Or I'm getting old and slipping into menopause

I was diagnosed with PCOS when ttc. Terrible acne if I'm not on the pill (an oestrogen-type one - Marvelon for the last decade, pretty much keeps everything in order for me). Needed clomid to conceive. That's about it really. Smile

i was diagnosed at 19. have horrible hirsutism and weight gain (but thats mostly cz i eat junk). also acne on back but thats not too bad. hmm yes i get periods where one of the cysts decides to swell up to humongous size and causes pain and bloating. ditto the nipple hair
and everything has got worse since i came off the pill last year in attempt to TTC

I have it too. No fertility problems so far (have 2 DC) despite being told i would need help to conceive. I'm overweight (size 18/20) and have a few chin hairs. My worst symptom is acne on my chin/jawline. I have tried everything to get rid of it but nothing works Sad

I'm fully aware that losing some weight would probably ease symptoms dramatically but unfortunately have a huge problem with comfort eating which I just can't seem to solve.

this is a good website, and also have a look at 'the pcos diet book' and 'the ultimate pcos handbook' by colette harris (available from amazon).
