Has anyone experienced similar - pains in tummy, like period pains -for about 2 weeks, maybe a bit less- the feeling of needing to go to the loo fairly often but it all coming to nothing except for sometimes very runny poo with lots of mucus (sorry for all this it's making me very embarrassed) and some blood. I do have some piles but they are quite ok at the moment and I know how they feel when sore -this blood seems to come from inside, sort of higher up-at least that's the feeling. I thought I'd monitor things for a week or so and if no improvement see my gp.

I have ulcerative colitis and it does sound very very much like that. I probably had it for a long time before it was diagnosed this September - had unexplained anaemia and joint pains for years but no obvious blood initially. Go to the doctor when you can face it - it can take a while to get a referral for colonoscopy and definitive diagnosis though. Hope your other appointment goes well. That's a lot to be dealing with in one go so I totally understand why you don't want to go to your GP with this in the same week.

Yep, colitis can cause inflammation in the joints - not always, but in about 10% of cases, I think. With me it was mostly unexplained pain flaring up in one or other of my shoulders but it moved around a lot and affected my knee and wrist at various times. It all went away as soon as they started treating the colitis though.
