Any remedies for conjunctivitis?

I am bf my 9 month old dd (2 feeds a day) and have had conjunctivitis since Mon night. I bought some chloramphenicol antibiotic eye drops but see on the packet (and on net doctor) that they pass into milk and can't be used by BF mothers. Heaven knows how but there we are.

Can anyone suggest another way of getting rid of it - it is very sore and weepy, and I look like a rabbit, which is not ideal!

You could use your own breast milk? It's antibacterial...

3 suggestions: use breast milk to bathe the eye. soak some cotton wool and then drip it into your eye, wiping from the inside out. bm is full of anti bodies and will really help to clear the infection.

if you don't like the sound of that, fill a basin with warm water and add one drop of lavender oil. disperse well in the water by stirring, then use water to bathe eye, as above.

cammomile tea can also be used to bathe eye in a similar way to (2).

Yep - breast milk.

A few drops of lavender essential oil in a container full of cooled boiled water shaken to mix well and then bathe the eye with cotton wool wiping from inside to outside using fresh piece of cotton wool each time. Has worked last time my DD2 had a sticky eye that could have developed into conjuntivitis so worth a try.

Am daubing eye with camomile tea as haven't hit the shops yet for the lavender oil. It's definitely looking better - less red but still quite puffy. Thanks for all your advice
