Any remedies for a cold in an eight week old please

My son has a stuffy nose, keeps sneezing and his eyes have gone that glazed way you do when you get a cold. It is especially worse at night where it sounds sometimes as if he is having trouble breathing, but is then fine the next minute.

I have been using nasal saline drops and last night tried raising the mattress.

Can I use Karvol, vicks or anything, or does anyone have any other remedies????

Thanks

Its horrid when such little ones have colds and there's not much you can do to help...dd had her first at 8 weeks, too. I think you're mostly doing what you can (saline, raised mattress) and the only other thing I did was put a bit of Olbas Oil Junior (make sure its junior) in the room. Not in the bed, not too near her face, just a few feet away - not sure if it helped or not, though.
If he is really stuffed up, you can try running the hot taps in the bathroom to steam it up, and sitting in there with him for a while...or putting a humidifier (if you have one) in his/your room.
Hope he's better soon!

saline nose drops and nasal aspirator - also known as a suction bulb

We had disastrous times with the suction thingy - in spite of US friends giving explicit instructions over the phone several times! Glad to hear they work for someone, ours is now used by DD on her dolls

I had a good tip from my Nan when my little one was poorly, it was to rub Vicks onto the soles of his feet, the vapours go upwards and he's too little to get it near him at that age.

Have you tried anything homepathic - our DS had a wheezy cold for 2 months between 4-6 months last summer - we were prescribed Chamomilla by a Dr at the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital and it cleared up in less than 3 days. Make sure you ask wherever you buy it from that it's suitable for children as they need a tincture so you can put drops in their mouth.
