Costochondritis

Bit of a long shot because it seems to be a rare condition but does anybody else out there have or has had costochondritis?
I've had it for 10 months now and have no light at the end of the tunnel. I can't take NSAIDS because my stomach lining is too thin and although I see my chiropractor regularly there is only so much he can do.
I'm so fed up of watching what I do/eat. I'm in agony and can't walk long distances, or do much at all. I had to give up work and I'm just so fed up.

If anybody out there has had it, how long did it last for you? What did you do to treat it?

TIA

resurrecting this thread as I now have pain on both sides in the ribs - reaching out for the car door or something like that usually gives me a mad shot of pain, but I also feel like a pressure in my stomach/rib area. I'm still none the wiser, since we were posting on this in December I've had a colonoscopy, x-ray, blood tests etc., am back at GP on Friday - are any of the sufferers out and about want to update us on how things are?

Resurrecting this thread. I was diagnosed with cc back in July had a month of agony and now the flare ups have happened again. Going to see gp about it tomorrow. Was previously on naproxen which dd not agree with (could not stop burping) and algesal cream did not hit the spot...hurts [ sad]

MrsAceRimmer · 01/03/2013 22:00

Glad Ive found this - Ive just been diagnosed with this and given naproxen and ozpermarole (sp) to reduce acid. I must have had it on & off for years, but last Monday I felt as thought I was dying, I was in so much pain.

Does anyone have any decent coping strategies?

The only thing I found that was any kind of proper relief was the steroid injections someone mentioned further up in the original old post. NSAID's eventually just eat away at your stomach and are not terribly effective long term anyway.

Hi all,

I want to post a solution.

After having this for several years, I devote a few days of intensive research to find a solution.

This video is it:

Now three years later: this has actually worked.

You don’t even need to buy the guy’s thing (though do to support him). Something similarly shaped (a small glass bottle of oregano for me) can do the trick and sort this otherwise debilitation predicament.

I’m back to lifting weights – and so long as I do this for ~3 minutes each morning, I live pain-free. Please spread the word!!

Oh god I feel for you . I had this in 2016 for about a month. Felt like my chest was on fire and it was agony to breathe. I ended up in hospital on steriods as I was in such pain. Only thing that helped me was anti inflammatory pain killers. I’ve not had a re occurrence since then.

This thread has really taken the edge off my costo agony for 10 minutes! Hope everyone who ever posted on it is in a much better place these days! I've had an awful flare up today, it kind of crept over me in the last 6 or 7 hours, to now being agony just to lie down. So I've got up again and taken cocodamol, put voltarol on the affected area, and set up my TENS machine and got all 4 pads buzzing away on my left chest. First felt pain in my sternum, quite sharp, but it has since settled on the left side and feels sore and achey to the touch. Had some pain in my left arm too but that comes and goes, it's the rib/breast bone pain that's the worst. Not worried about my heart because was checked over In A&E yesterday for something else and all my vitals were fine thankfully. But this is grim, the pain is not funny in the slightest 😩
