Loss of smell and taste

Have any of you ever suffered from losing your sense of smell and taste? I started to lose mine about a year ago for no apparent reason and the doc prescribed Nasonex nasal spray and referred me to ENT at the hosp. Nasonex worked at first but now i have lost all sense of smell and taste again!!
Good news is that i am losing weight because I've gone off eating.

Any ideas?

What did ENT say flora?

Nasal polyps are a harmless and common cause of loss of smell (taste goes when smell does, because most of what we think of as taste is actually carried out by the nose). Were you checked for them?

ENT think its probably allergies but did not mention polyps (he had a quick look up my nose). He sent me for a RAST (?) blood test and i go back for the results on 6th Dec.
Its driving me mad now and beginning to get me down,
