Sorry - Can compacted ear wax cause external ear pain?

I've had external ear ache since Saturday - so bad that I can't bear to touch my earlobe or front of my ear. The pain goes from my temple to my jaw, and I can't wear my glasses or lay on it.

I saw the Dr this afternoon, who looked in my ear and told me it is compacted ear wax, to put olive oil in for three weeks then get my ears syringed.

But there's no pain deep in my ear, and I've no deafness, it's all external. I had taken ibroprofen before I went to the drs as it was hurting so much, so perhaps I didn't emphasise how much it hurts, but now it's worn off I would scream if anyone went near my ear!

Should I go back or could this be compacted wax? I can't near this for three weeks!

Thanks Smile

Sounds like neuralgia, which is very painful.

Disclaimer: I'm not and never have been medically trained, but I do suffer from neuralgia now and again

Thanks Tequila, I don't think it's neuralgia as that's intermittent isn't it? This hurts all the time (although Ibroprofen takes it off). I don't think it's compacted wax though either!
