Surgical scar & skin that doesn't heal well - what could help?

Hello
Has anyone had success with bio oil? Manuka dressings? Anything else? How soon do you start using these things on the scar after the op, and for how long?

I know I don't heal well from previous operations, mole removal etc and I'm booked in for a c section soon. Would love some tips.

Thanks.

I'm a bit Hmm about bio-oil tbh. most important fact; if you smoke then stop - each inhalation of smoke +nicotine temporarily collapses the tiny tiny blood vessels in your skin = slower healing time and poor scar result.

Make sure your diet comprises plenty of Vit C, make sure that no clothing you choose to wear rubs on the scarline. Massage is the key point, light and gentle (bio-oil would reduce skin-to-skin friction), twice a day. Helps prevent the healing tissues from forming too much scar tissue and encourages good blood flow into the area.

I was told to eat more protein to help healing after surgery.
I think I've read somewhere that taking zinc supplements can help too.

I too have been told to eat a very nutrient rich diet in advance and afterwards. Lots of different fruit and veg and as varied rest of it as I could be bothered, to make sure I was in good shape.

I used a good quality oil on my scars (several!). I agree massage is key. You will be able to tell when you have healed well enough for it!
