...or am I just getting old?!

In the last year ro so, whenever I drink anything - a glass of wine with dinner, a cold beer on a hot day etc - I have very poor sleep that night, often feel nauseous, and then feel like I have a terrible hangover the next day and feel very depressed for several days.

Why??! I used to be able to put a fair bit away Grin. Now it is almost as if I have become intolerant of even a single unit of booze.

This happened to me when I hit 40 and sadly I have given up totally - even a few sips of champagne at a wedding can now make me feel bad. I miss that pleasant smiley place and the taste of some wines and vodka etc - a lot of my friends over the past few years have given up too as they just could not cope anymore - my DP still packs it away and he drank a lot less than me in our 20's.

I just think how I might have saved my liver and how much money has been saved on my shopping and going out bill - in fact during the first 6 months of abstinence I wrote what I saved down and it came to over £500!!

I think womens livers are much more sensitive to alcohol - obey your body and stop.

Yes, I have the same problem. Diagnosed eventually by a doctor in the family, as simply running out of an important enzyme that breaks down alcohol.

I gave up all alcohol, it got to the point where even a small glass could bring on nausea, and that hangover feeling before I even got in to bed. I miss it occasionally, but like javo, I'm a cheap date Grin

Mine intolerance happened when I suffered from chronic fatigue. Better now but 15 yrs ago.

I find it makes my heart rate flutter, cant sleep, feel like it stays in my body for days - when I wake up seems to still be there. My body and legs feel heavy and weak.

I can manage a glass and enjoy a shandy but no more than two.

Sad that I cant get tipsy and its makes night time socialising a bit stiff.
