Really worried about 6 month old ds

He has been vomiting every feed since yesterday.

Took him to the doctors and of course he was all smiles. He seems very snotty, could this be why he is being sick?

Tried stopping the solids, but then he wanted to bf all the time and was so awash with milk he was just sick again.

Do I just feed normally through this and clear up sick? With older kids I know you can starve them, can't really do this with a baby can you?

We've just been through this with ds2 who is 6 months old next week! I wasn't sure what to do tbh but as we are mixed feeding with no solids yet we decided to with hold all the bottle feeds, offer water in a bottle for a little while, until he could keep it down, and then gave him breastfeeds only until he started to feel a little better. The bug that we've had (the whole family has had it) seemed to make us feel very uncomfortable and shivery and made me ache all over so I gave ds some calpol (I used ibuprofen on myself) which I think made a difference. We didn't have a snotty nose though. NHS direct suggests either bf or using dioralyte (sp?) to rehydrate. HTH and hope he's feeling better soon.

The only thing you need to be careful of that he does not get dehydrated. Lots of sips of water and small amounts of milk will be enough until he's over it. Even if he is sick he will have digested some of the liquid. You can tell if he is dehydrated by how often he wees. If he is weeing regularly you are fine. HTH.

Yes I would give dioralyte (either in a bottle if he takes bottles or from a spoon otherwise) and breastfeed. Definitely snot can make them sick.

I tried a bit of plain baby rice with water and he wolfed it down - maybe he's hungry? if it is a cold that's making him sick and not a tummy bug then should I just keep feeding him as normal?

Kids being ill had got to be the worst thing about being a mum. How do people cope when their children are seriously or ill on a long term basis?

My house is a tip and the six year old has watched non stop telly. We've missed our big family get together and will miss a party tonight as well. Which doesn't matter but just can't think straight till he is better.

Don't worry about house being a tip or 6yo watching TV - thats what TV is for IMO - enetertaining either the poorly child or a sibling. Baby rice and water sounds like a good idea - fairly bland and not likely to irritate the stomach. Think you just have to keep going and see it through TBH.
