fever but no fever....

OK the dh is lying upstairs moaning gently. He has an abcess in his gum and about 7 days ago he finished his antibiotics for it. The abcess is still there, you can feel the lump. He's behaving like he has a fever but he has no fever. I've taken his temp a number of times today but nada. He's achey, shivery, feeling cold. He has no energy, he has a headache but no face pain. He hasn't eaten much today and says he feels sick and has a gripey tummy. He's got the squits as well.
He's had paracetamol but that doesn't seem to be helping.
Any ideas on what we should be doing?

Ringing the emergency doctor? Is today the first day he's felt ill ?

How reliable is the thermometer? Does he feel hot?

Rang NHS Direct and they said take paracetamol, he probably has a cold. It's a digital thermometer - usually pretty good. He feels warm but then he's bundled up in the duvet. He's been lacklustre all week, he's off work today and he went downhill from the moment he got up. I'll keep checking on him and send him to the docs in the morning if it's still bad. Thanks balls.
