Hiya, I know to some people this might be annoying but it is awful...since having my baby 11 months ago I cannot put weight on. I have had blood tests and they are all clear. I eat a balanced diet but the weight keeps dropping off - am now below 7st and have been asked if I am Anorexic. I have heard that there is a condition where women can't put weight on after childbirth - does anyone know anymore about this condition? Is anyone else having this problem? Would love to hear from anyone. Thanks. Pinky :)

Did they test your thyroid levels?

Hi Pinky - I am the same, I really struggle to put weight on and people comment all the time on my appearance. Your metabolism may well have changed since having a baby and perhaps what you ate before/what you are calling a balanced diet is not meeting your calorie needs now.
Here is my weight-gain diet:

  • Breakfast full fat natural yoghurt with nuts and honey, boiled egg and soldiers
  • Mid morning snack of nuts and dark chocolate
  • Lunch jacket potato with beans and cheese OR large multigrain baguette with chicken salad and mayo. Packet of quality crisps or a banana
  • Afternoon snack of 2 chocolate biscuits
  • Dinner: half an avocado with olive oil & balsamic vinegar, large chicken breast or fillet of salmon, pasta and sauce or mash, mounds of vegetables with olive oil and then more dark chocolate or ice-cream. Glass of nice red wine.
  • Before bed some mixed unsalted nuts
Doing this I can put on 2 or 3 pounds over a couple of weeks. If I let it slip then the weight falls back off me. So I reckon I am zipping through calories without noticing. I don't do any exercise but I do have quite a full-on stressful job.

Try it and see how you go

After having my DD I lost five and a half stone in 9 months. Twas all very strange, particularly as I was prepared for a long slog in losing weight as I'd been on Weightwatchers on and off for years beforehand!
I was feeling really poorly with it - tiny appetite, always feeling bloated etc etc. Anyway, after many tests to do with thyroids and other things, I was tested for coeliac disease, and this was confirmed.
I stopped eating gluten and my weight slowly crept back up (although I still find it hard to put weight on!)
