Feeling ill, had a glass of wine about an hour ago, can I take paracetemol?

I have caught DS1's bug and now have a thumping head, sore throat, cough and my limbs are starting to ache. Thing is I had a large glass of red wine about an hour (maybe slightly longer)ago when I didn't feel too bad and thought it might actually help . I feel like taking a couple of paracetemol (something I rarely do)and going to bed now but I can hear my mother's voice saying "don't take paracetemol after drinking", although I think she used to say the same about paracetemol with Coca Cola.

Old wives tale? or best not to risk it?

as far as I know it's fine - it would say on teh box if not

ParrupupumScum · 27/12/2005 23:52

What? i always take paracetemol after drinking!

Q Is it dangerous to take paracetamol and drink alcohol?
A

No. Indeed paracetamol and alcohol are metabolised by the same oxidative enzymes and alcohol may even confer some protection to the liver in the event of a paracetamol overdose (19).

In certain circumstances, alcoholics may be at higher risk of liver injury in the event of a paracetamol overdose. However, paracetamol is used as an analgesic for patients in hospital liver units, including alcoholic patients (20).

LOL Scummy!

Thanks both of you, never thought that if it was dangerous it would say so on the box! Doh! Mothers!!!

I suppose I should also question, 'never have a hot bath just after or when drinking alcohol' or 'just after taking paracetemol'.

There's obviously a theme going on with all this advice.

Get better soon, Mrs Spoon.

colditz · 27/12/2005 23:58

Don't forget also, that you mustn't put new shoes on the table, because in some way that nobody can explain, it will cause Bad Luck.

LOL Colditz!

Feeling a bit better today, DH has been at home today so I took full advantage and went back to bed.

Poor DS2 seems to have it now and his eyes are streaming, he seems to have it worse than any of us.
