Sorry this is gross, but i am worried and looked online (prob not the best of ideas) and found that most of my symptoms seem to fit UC: different coloured stools which frequently changes but is mostly very loose.
Blood in stools (a lot), if i pass wind, i can pass pure blood but usually mess myself (very unpleasant), stomach churns constantly.
Being sent (eventually) for a colonoscopy to have a look see. Does anyone know what else this could be please? x

I've taken the first dose & I'm still alive Wink

spiderlight · 30/11/2011 18:27

Well done! Is it kleen-prep or something else?

KatyMac · 30/11/2011 18:36

is it picolax? or something

I have been queasy all afternoon; they said it wouldn't work until the second dose at about 7. Well that was a load of crap I am so empty

lisad123 · 30/11/2011 19:12

Grin at "load of crap"

KatyMac · 30/11/2011 19:43

Second dose taken; but I'm not sure there is anything left to go

spiderlight · 30/11/2011 19:45

Ah yes, I've heard of Picolax. This might give you a laugh...

KatyMac · 30/11/2011 20:31

Seems fairly accurate

2nd dose has done nothing yet

KatyMac · 30/11/2011 21:52

Well I am pretty clean now

But I feel very very rough

Chocol8 · 30/11/2011 22:05

Hang in there Katy, you're doing a stirling job - it's good you have nothing left so that they get a clear view. Hope you feel better v soon.

Spider, OMG, that Picolax thread was HILARIOUS! Thank you, i actually LOL'ed cos i know i will be having similar treatment next week!

I can't even drink after 7am tomorrow morning Sad & I don't go in until 1

spiderlight · 01/12/2011 09:03

Thinking of you today, Katy - hope it's productive and not too uncomfortable for you and that you come out with some answers and a plan. If it's the same as my hospital you'll get a lovely cuppa and some biscuits straight afterwards, so focus on that :o I was so hungry that I practically ran out of the room trailing the cable behind me!

KatyMac · 01/12/2011 09:12

I guess the worst case scenario for me is that it's 'just' my IBS because little can be done to fix it, the cost of re-diagnosis is extremely high & it's just another manifestation of my 'health anxiety'

spiderlight · 01/12/2011 12:53

You're probably on your way now but I hope you don't get fobbed off with 'anxiety'. Thinking of you.

Chocol8 · 01/12/2011 16:10

How did you get on today Katy? I hope they came up with an answer for you.

Spider, can just picture you running out for a morsel of food, bless ya!

Just checking in to see how today went, Katy.

lisad123 · 01/12/2011 17:59

Hope you got some answers today Katy?

KatyMac · 01/12/2011 19:19

Hi everyone,

Definitely not UC & no polyps - so great news
Possibly this 'auto immune colitis' they took biopsies

But it's probably 'just' IBS with no explanation about the blood

So I am a bit down tbh

Chocol8 · 01/12/2011 20:37

I'm sorry to hear that Katy, but guess they'll be able to confirm to you properly when they have checked the biopsies.

Surely they should be able to tell you where the blood is coming from?

OP posts:
spiderlight · 01/12/2011 20:37

Sorry it's not a more definite answer, but it's good that it's not UC. I didn't know there was a difference between UC and autoimmune colitis - I thought UC was autoimmune Confused Still, maybe the biopsies will shed some light on things. Did they take bloods as well? Did they give you any sort of advice about diet or meds or anything? When are you going back for the results?

KatyMac · 01/12/2011 20:48

Nothing just wait for a letter

spiderlight · 01/12/2011 21:26

Hope it's not too long coming. Take it easy for a few days if you can - you must be drained from all this (figuratively as well as literally!)

KatyMac · 01/12/2011 22:00

Thanks

I intend to

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 11:04

I'm thinking of trying a sort of exclusion diet to see if I can sort it

spiderlight · 02/12/2011 12:34

Makes sense. Maybe start with a food diary to see if you can spot any culprits. My friend is on at me to go and see a naturopath but I'm scared he's going to put me on some kind of gluten/dairy/chocolate-free diet so I'm waiting till after Christmas! I know one person with UC and one with Crohn's who both control it completely through diet though, so it's worth looking at.

KatyMac · 02/12/2011 14:28

& I am very cagey about eating new foods atm

I think less is more
