is it ok after just milk? DS (2.5) very unhappy with on off earache over past two days. On doctors advice Ibuprofen/paracetamol overlap has been doing the trick but he's refusing to eat anything this morning. Does milk count as food in this case?

Should be fine. Taking it on an empty stomac risks irritation the stomach, milk would help to 'line' it. Give the paractetamol first, if possible, then if he is feeling a bit bettwe get some more food into him, then put in the ibuprofen IYSWIM

Cheers, its just that he had paracetamol at 6 and also ibuprofen seems to work much faster than paracetamol.I've called nhs direct but they're busy and may take up to an hour to get back to me.... should I just give him the ibuprofen do you think?

worst case is that he might get an upset tummy. It will not stop it working, or anything

i take it on an empty stomach and its doesnt hurt me!

nannyl - if you take it regularly in an empty stomach you are risking a stomach ulcer.

A one off will probably do no harm (unless you already have an ulcer), and taking it after milk is fine.
