Wasp Sting - how soon after would you have an allergic reaction?

DS (nearly aged 3) has been stung by a wasp just over an hour ago on his thumb.

His thumb is red and slightly swollen and I can see the tiny hole where he was stung. He didn't cry at all. The only reason I knew he'd been stung was because he came running towards be with the wasp crawling up his hand and was all pleased with himself shouting "bee Mummy". If he'd not done this I wouldn't have had any reason to look at his thumb.

So while I'm assuming he's ok I just wanted to find out if anyone knew how long it could take an allergic reaction to kick in? Would it have happened by now?

dh is allergic to wasp stings, it happens almost immediately that he's been stung.
