Ds is 4. He has had red eyes for a few days. he was up last night with a croupy cough and in the past fews hours has developed a rash, flushed with white raised bumps of varying sizes. He is itchy and has a cough.

Any idea's not sure whether to call Doc.

sounds a bit like urticaria possibly

merrycompo · 16/12/2005 16:38

You could try NHS direct

LIZS · 16/12/2005 16:41

Don't want to be alarmist as it is more than likely viral but could it possibly sound like measles ?

Thanks for all your messages.

I did call NHS direct who advised that we take him to casualty.
The Dr thinks that he does have measles, albeit very mildly(has had mmr).

I did wonder about the other children in the waiting room but Dr seemed to think babies would have natural immunity and those that had not had MMR were better off catching it now rather than when they got older.

Been told to watch for complications as even tough mildly affected he is pretty poorly.

vitamin A can really help- has to be in the form of retinol though - which is a nightmare to get hold of. Cod liver oil has it, best to see if you can get a high quality one from a health food shop- if not any brand. rub it on the skin if he won't take it- fat soluble so some should get through. I wouldn't give long term but fine for the duration of the illness. Hope he's better soon.

maddiemostmerry · 16/12/2005 21:52

Yes, spots in mouth confirmed dx. MMR does not stop you getting illness, means you get a milder form of it if you manage to pick it up.

Thanks for good wishes.

Hope he recovers swiftly, glad you took him to be checked thoruoghly

EliBeentoSantasGrotto · 16/12/2005 22:03

Poor lad, I wish him well soon. I had measles as a child and remember the itching, it was miserable - think my Mum used calamine lotion, helped a bit.

maddiemostmerry · 16/12/2005 22:06

Have cod liver oil, so will rub in.

He is really itchy but luckily not that upset by it.
