Think I may have to have a filling tomorrow. Do they hurt?!

Only when you get your cheque book out! lol

Truly - no pain at all.

I've got to have one tomorrow too. Only the initial injection hurt from my experiences. And the irritating numbness for hours afterwards.

cutekids · 14/12/2005 22:46

don't they freeze the area or anything?

All injections these days. Evil, sadistic b*stards!!! I hate needles!!

MistletAero · 14/12/2005 22:51

They might possibly spray the injection site before giving you a local, but more likely not unless you ask or they know you're verrrrrry nervous. Honestly - it's not painful - maybe (at worst), a slight scracthing sensation when they numb your gum, but truly, take it from me who in the past was petrified at the thought of visiting the dentist, that there is really nothing to fear. Dentristry nowadays is on the whole virtually painless.

The injection nips a bit - but if your dentist is any good, they'll tell you to keep your mouth open as wide as poss when they inject you, they should warm the novocaine (or whatever it's called) and they should inject it really slowly.

If you haven't to get an filling replaced, it will be a doddle (says me who has to have tamazepam before a trip to the dentist, LOL!)

Never used to be nervous about dentists at all, but this one is quite new to the job I think and his attitude when I took my kids last time quite honestly stunk! He had no bedside manner at all and even the nurse in there with him was embarrassed over his attitude. Doesn't have a clue how to talk to kids either! Not good! Trouble is, he's the only National Health dentist left in my practice. Think he's a mature student or something. God, i'm nervous now!
