Argghhh! Should I go back to the Doctors?

DS (19mths) developed a rash a few weeks ago, he also had a bad cough and Dr said it was a viral rash. However, it has got worse and worse and started to itch. I took him to Drs yesterday and she said that it was still the viral rash, and gave us some Oilatum and a big tub of Diprobase.

Last night he had a bath and I smothered him in cream, he was up at 10pm - 12pm itching like crazy and screaming. I put more cream on.
I have been up with him now since 4.30am. His rash has spread and he seems to be even more itchy.

It is tearing me apart watching him squirming and clawing at his skin. Should I continue or should I go back and ask for something else?

I'd go back. Maybe you could use some sort of antihistamine?

(I'd be dosing with Medised at this point, maybe? If the decongestants in there are antihistamines. That way, DS could get some sleep.)

I am sure it was diprobase that brought my ds out in a worse rash and he screamed when it was on almost as though it was burning!

Oh yes I forgot. I did also give DS 10mls of Medised at bedtime.
When he woke at 10pm his rash was so red and raised that I thought that maybe it was only contributing to the misery.
I have recently changed washing powder, not that it mattered previously to him, but guess I ought to assume it could be to blame?

Yeah, washing powder sounds like a possible explanation ... abb's suggestion that diprobase might be part of the problem sounds worth investigating ...

DH was ranting about the Diprobase warning of mild reactions including itching and a rash.

Well it did make my Ds worse. Bath him this morning with nothing but water, then use oilatum or even just chamomile to cool him. them see how it goes

Can you put Oilatum straight on?
I don't think I have any camomile anymore. Poor little man.

The rash is just on his torso, but since last night has started appearing on his face, in the crook of his elbow and into his nappy region.
He is also tearing at his hair and eyebrows

Yes, must go back I guess. I have been there so often lately that they'll dedicate a chair in the waiting room to me.

I didn't wish the Dr a happy Xmas either cos I just KNEW I would be back before then!

Well, this time I have piriton and an antibiotic, as it may or may not be Scarletina.

Has anyone had any experience with Scarletina?
