ds1 (10) hasn't been right for 10 days now. Had a temperature that was very mild during the day but went higher at night and lots of coughing.
Doctor said probably viral.
Has been right off his food ( v v unusual for ds1)
temperature has gone down now and was only very slightly higher than usual this morning so went to school today...
.but..tonight he suddenly says that his stomach feels off and bit headachy and then throws up!
it's so unlike him, would you be worried? should i be taking him back to the doctor tomorrow or even seeing a doctor tonight?
I'm useless with this sort of stuff. Please help!

Perhaps ring NHS direct??

feastofsteven · 12/12/2005 20:30

doesn't sound that serious to me atm to be seeking urgent medical attention tonight - see how he carries on this evening/overnight - sounds like it's one of those vicious cold and tummy bugs combined. if in doubt, given NHS Direct a ring!

OnZephyrstDayofXmas · 12/12/2005 20:31

Hiya - has he been sick throughout the 10 days? I would completely starve him for 24 hours if you haven't already so that any bugs will have nothing to live from and he'll have more chance of shifting it. You can always ring the NHS line tonight if you are worried about him, they'll get a doc/nurse to ring you back...

Hope he gets better soon

feastofsteven · 12/12/2005 20:32

I wouldn't starve, but definitely avoid dairy till his tummy has settled down again. Probably an idea to try and get him to drink a bit of water to rehydrate.

festiveface · 12/12/2005 20:33

no, he's been off his food but no sign of sickness until now.
Just keep thinking, what next!
never known him poorly so long.

would you keep him off school tomorrow?
He has already been off a full week last week.

My dd had the vomiting bug followed seamlessly by the cold/fever/coughing bug. It's a total PIA for all of us, frankly - esp as she's only 10 months, but it sounds the same as your ds. DS also had the coughing/fever bug but missed the vomiting bug. He didn't eat at all while he had it. I don't think this sounds very serious, but I do know how horrible it is. It was particularly vile when dh was away overnight, and dd vomited spectacularly all over me and the bed at 2am.

thecattleareALOHing · 12/12/2005 20:34

I wouldn't send him to school, no. Give him a clear day before you do that.

OnZephyrstDayofXmas · 12/12/2005 20:35

I would. Keep him off and see if you can see or speak to a doc... someone from your surgery will be able to ring you for a chat if you ask.

Did it sound mean to say starve him?! That's what we were told to do with dd when she had a bad tummy otherwise the bug keeps feeding from the food. Make sure he drinks water though.
