dh's eyesight blurry - who to go and see?

dh came home from work on friday complaining he had something in his eye (brick dust we think) he did some optrex and took painkillers and by saturday morning said it was no longer painful but a bit sore round the eye where he thinks he rubbed his eye.

By today he says he thinks he's scratched the eye although whatever was in there is not now.

But he now says his eyesight is blurry.

Will an optician see him tomorrow morning to check it is just a scratch? Or should we be going to out of hours or a and e?

An optician should be able to have a look for him, otherwise, check the hospitals website to see if they have an eye a&e or eye drop in clinic, if not, normal a&e

Optician should be able to check if everything looks ok.

I don't want to worry you, but he needs to see someone urgently, not an optician tomorrow. On Mayday bank holiday DD's eyesight suddenly went blurry, so we took her to the out of hours GP. It turned out to be the right thing to do. We got referred to another hospital who had a resident eye specialist who discovered that she has a load of ulcers on her retina.

A blood test later confirmed that it was herpes, and a course of Zovirax eye ointment cleared it up. A week later her eyesight was as it should be.

I was told that should it happen again I need to take her to A & E without delay so that she could start a course of treatment immdeiately.

Please don't wait until tomorrow.

Could a blurry eye be the sign of something else wrong? If so, A & E would be the bst place to go.

I left dh at a and e 40 mins ago (common sense took over once I read my OP!)

He's just text to say they triaged him and he couldn't see the eye test chart with the blurry eye so is now waiting to see doctor.

My dm had that after playing tennis on sandy courts. She'd got sand caught under her contact lens and scratched the lens. It was okay by the next day without treatment, and was completely better within a week. She went to A&E to get checked though.

Well he's back. They think he's got a corneal rust spit as a result of some metal going in his eye at work. He has drops to put in and has to make an appointment to have the rust removed fingers crossed soon.

Thanks for all the advice.

Ouch. Hope he is okay soon.

mycatoscar · 12/09/2011 14:59

Thanks fab he has an appt in a weeks time to have it removed as apparently the linger he uses the ointment the easier it is to remove the rust. Still doesn't sound much fun though poor dh Sad
