you are doing the right thing, erthromycin is known to have this effect, its effects my dd1 in the same way, we gave up after the 2nd dose.

Sounds horrid and very frustrating. Bronchiolitis is viral (related to the common cold virus) - dd had it at 3 months, almost exactly 4yrs ago - but perhaps it is possible to get a bacterial infection as well. We did the symptomatic treatment - paracetamol, humidifier (or wet clothes on radiator), fluids in small sips (she was sicking back b'feeds so I gave very small amounts of ebm every hour or two) -and she took over a week to recover but then picked up a UTI and ear infection. It is very worrying and lots of babies every winter need hospital attention due to it, as it is very common at this time of year.

Hope he picks up tomorrow.

did the out of hours doc explain why he thought you should take your son to be seen?

You poor thing . I really wish the Govt would get its act together and do something about the out-of-hours service - it patently isn't working at the moment. It sounds as if you're doing the right thing but giving him fluids and rest. I'd just keep an eye on his breathing with the bronchilitis, and if it gets any worse, take him to A and E, rather than going through the out of hours thingie. Hope he feels better soon

btw think you were right stopping the antibiotics given the side effects, and that it appears they shouldn't have been prescribed anyway.

dd2 was 3months when she got brocholistis, she went grey and floppy on me, and we ended up in a and e. then she threw upand went all pink again.

Nightmare Mooschops. I had to give dd antibiotics when she was 2 weeks old and they had this effect - made me feel awful, she was getting through 20-30 nappies a day for 5 days. However, the Doc said not to worry - he actually warned me in advance that this would happen - she even still gained weight during that time. So it's not always a case that you need to stop treatment. Hope you can get some good treatment and advice soon.
