varicose veins - treatment options please

I've got one unsightly bobbly vein on the back of my right calf and knee and lots of spider veins on both legs. GP says vv only get treated now on the NHS when ulcerated. Harrumph. For any pain I should take ibuprofen or similar. This sucks.

I'm usually on the floor kneeling, cross-legged playing with bairn and have to change position frequently because of the aching/pressure. I'd rather not have this always punctuate my fun with DS.

I've got private medical insurance through work. Has anyone taken this route and if so what treatment did you get for vv and/or spider veins (which I realise is a cosmetic concern but wonder whether can be treated in same wave)? Many thanks.

I can't offer any advice, but will watch this thread with interest as I have a really bobbly varicose vein on my right leg. It's so bobbly that you can see it though some of my trousers. I also have private health insurance so would be interested to hear whether it's possible to have veins done though that.

OK Littlefish. My own research so far has pointed me to Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) which is available on my private medical insurance but it remains to be seen whether they'll approve my claim. They're forwarding a form for my GP to fill in. I wonder whether I will need to have suffered for an eon to get approval and it will be the way the form is filled in that determines success. Will keep you posted.

Think there are yoga positions that help prevent varicose veins like Eagle..? Need to do more research.
