Anyone chosen to be sterilised during a c section?

Due to have a very unexpected number 3 in Jan (coil baby) and don't want any more kids. Am 40 and thought coil would do me until menopause but obviously don't trust it anymore.

Having an elective c section as have had 2 previous sections . Initially GP said they don't usually do a tube tie during section as it's an emotionally vulnerable time -I guess putting it bluntly the baby might not make it and you might decide to go again....

But when I saw consultant last time he said they did it quite often. He also felt that I seemed confident that I didn't want to be pregnant again, and said it only took 5 mins, whereas if I decide to do it later I have to go in and have an anaesthetic, operation etc etc....

I have to talk it thro again next Monday and make a decision and just wondered if anyone else had done it. Also wondered if anyone had had it done not during c section - and what if any are downsides afterwards? Someone said that apart from being a grim op having no tubes makes you fat ... but can't see how that works?

My friend had her tubes tied after her section, she has 5 kids the last one BIG SHOCK and she decided enough was enough
She is very happy, no regrets.

I also wanted to be sterilised during section but was told "NO" had to wait 12 weeks after delivery to ensure swelling was down and insides pretty much back to normal before sterilisation. 12 weeks later i was sterilised as agreed

I did! No probs at all - it seems to make perfect sense to have it done while they're inside anyway, and with a proper opening rather than a keyhole job

Periods were much heavier afterwards but I've no idea if that was anything to do with the tying - I was 42 anyway and probably going into peri-menopause.

My mum had this done, after having my wee brother (also a 'coil' baby), she didnt have a section but was sterilized while she was in.

My frien already had two beatiful DD's and fell pregnant unexpectedly, at her scan they told her it was twins, she opted there and then to have a section and to be sterelised at the same time and has never looked back she now has three beautiful DD's and a beautiful DS, and doesn't have to worry about any nmore supprises.

as for having your tubes tied making you fat, i'm sure thats a load of old twaddle!

i am considering having it done, will be going to see consultant next week, re my 3rd c/section and having sterilisation done at same time.

i am 29 and this is my third pregnancy, i didn't want to get pregnant again and we had used condoms every time we had bd so was a complete shock. i tested every week for two months witha neg result and finally went to the gp for a blood test, which was also neg, meaniwhile my diet wasn't working, wasn't losing any weight and felt bloated. went back to gp to question results had another blood test and this conformed it!

it took a while to come to terms with and i never considered an alternative, but would have liked a bit longer to get used to it. now def want the op, but apparently my age will go against me, but i def do not want anymore. dh will be going for a vasectomy as well, but don't entirley trust that as have 2 friends who have babies post their dh's vasectomy!

I was offered it during my third C section and was told by my Consultant that it was routinely offered to women who had had 3 sections. She was quite keen for me to go ahead with it but have to say it didn't "feel right" at the time.

I begged for 3 years to be sterilised, and when i had an elective section for my 4th, i was sterilised at the same time. I had chunks taken out of my tubes, was all fine, never felt a thing despite horror stories! And am really glad it was done, and i was 28 when it was done. I honestly believe its a womans choice and if you want it done, and your consultants happy to do it, go for it. Theres a higher failure rate when its performed at same time as a section, but i had an x-ray done afterwards to make damn sure they did it properly! Go for it, and good luck
