Random (rubbish) health advice from strangers!

Anyone got any gems?

Since I have developed asthma I have had a wealth of them. My favourite was in the GPs surgery, was coughing a chesty, wheezey cough in waiting room and lady started chatting to me. Said it was probably because I was on too many inhalers said had just got out of hosp a few days before. And she was telling me how if I let go of all my stress my asthma would go and I needed to wean myself off my inhalers that would sort me.

Went in to see Dr, was nebulised, 15min later am being wheeled past her in to an ambulance on oxygen, repeat nebs and o2 monitor!

Even when I was in hosp the woman opposite was obsessed with homeopathy and told me that would stop me needing nebs and I shouldnt use nebs too much.

Ha! What was the woman opposite in for? Do tell me it was a reaction to black cohosh or something?

She kept having leg spasms! (was a recieving ward) She hated my nebuliser. I laughed as the lady next to me had emphysima (sp!) and so was on nebs and cow moaned about noise...little did she know we were sharing a machine and so when she finished her nebs I started mine, mwahahaha!

Voyeuristic stranger came out of his house to watch paramedics with my ds, who was being treated for cervical spine dislocation, and damaged spinal cord.....told my ds face down on the floor, awaiting backboard and neck brace to "wriggle around so he didn't get cold", chorus of paramedics shouted out "NO Lie Still!"

Bloke on security at the airport told me I ought to have my very limited functioning arm amputated 'like the soldiers'.

Yes I've had tons of 'helpful' advice over the years ... I've had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 19 and apparently I'd be cured if I ....
Exercised more/less
Cut out tomatoes, alcohol, coffee, tea, citrus fruits, wheat, potatoes, meat, strawberries, green veg, gluten, caffeine, chocolate, refined sugar, diary, honey....blah blah blah
Wore copper
Didn't take my RA drugs
Had kids/didn't have kids
Took a million different herbal remedies
Etc etc
Obviously the small fact that there is no cure for RA bothers most people very little ... Oh and no it's not the same as that ache in their big toe knee and is probably not what their gran has
The worst culprit for unwanted / unhelpful advice is my DM she drives me up the wall she's also competitive about pain so her arthritic knee (general wear & tear ) is obviously worse than the RA that wracks my whole body, that I take life threatening chemo drugs to control and that I'm obviously just a bit of a drama queen

Sorry it's a subject I could rant for hours on

What an idiot sparkle

Lunatic man in park last week, as we accompanied child with horrendous broken bone - forearm looked like a letter z - 'oh it's probably just dislocated'. What, half way between his wrist and his elbow, so that would be which joint exactly?

Wonkylegs - I've also got RA and I keep getting similar 'advice' to you. I've also been told that I'm too young to have arthritis and too young to need walking sticks! I'm fed up with people telling me to visit a chiropractor when I've been told by my doctor and physiotherapist that it's the worst thing to do.

There are so many really stupid people who don't think before they speak.
