I have had 3 since October, all very heavy and painful. I had a baby in December 2004, and I am still bfing, so I managed to hold out having a period for nearly 11 months. However, since then, I have had 3. The last 2 were both 5 days long and there was about a fortnight between them. Now I am on no 3. Its pissing me off no end. Is it normal to have lots of periods in one go?

Red Nosed Walrus,

I have just seen your message.

Would advise you to visit your GP asap and explain this to him/her. If they are unhelpful would suggest you visit a gynaecologist - GP should refer you as a matter of course to one such person.

Heavy periods such as these often have an underlying cause. It may be an infection or due to fibroids (these can cause heavy bleeding). Do not be fobbed off in seeking answers.

Thank you, have been in pain today. It's driving me mad. I will go to my GP.
