how bad would pain be before you go to A&E

I have been fighting my GP for ages about my stomach problems and he is insistant its IBS but hasnt done much other than a few blood tests. IM fully aware that all of my signs could be an idicator of Overian cancer (also know its not likely). however today, Im in so much pain, in my left side, where my hip is and guess overiarys are. Im in pain everytime i move, but not unbearable pain.
I cant go anywhere till DH gets home from work but dont know whether to go to A&E or try GP again. MN opintions please

No I wouldn't go to A and E , i'd go back to the GP, getting a last minute emergency payment if pain was really bad. If you aren't happy with your GP diasgnosis ask to see someone else at the surgery for a second opinion and tell them you want to be referred to a consultant for further tests. I have IBS, I know there are degrees of the condition but if I was in the pain you describe with it I would want to see someone to see if there was anything else going on.

I would be seeing another GP within the practice and ask for a referral to a gynaecologist as a matter of course (mid cycle pain particularly if it is cyclical in nature is highly suggestive of endometriosis).

Do not be fobbed off. A & E certainly have their place but they may not be very helpful to you in your particular circumstances.

The only time I have been to A&E (also for abdominal/gynae probems) I was in so much pain I collapsed on my bed, and was almost losing conciousness. I couldn't string a sentence together. I was admitted and A&E people were really helpful (from what I remember). I hope that you've managed an emergency appt this afternoon at your GPs?
